Non-Certified Organic Ingredient Information

In promoting product integrity, ONE Group not only uses organic ingredients wherever it is available and possible, but they also meet organic food standards. ONE Group continues to support this high standard at a time where other companies are just beginning to attempt this or are lobbying for changed and lowered standards for non-food products such as skin care.

The few non-organic ingredients used in the Miessence range are not commercially available as organic, yet are deemed to be important enough an ingredient (in terms of product efficacy, stability or consistency) to be included in the formulas. For example, the yucca extract, which is wild harvested from the Mohave Desert area, is the cleansing agent for our cleansers ... without yucca, the cleansers wouldn't cleanse the skin.

The two Miessence shampoos, the body wash and the hair conditioner, each contain one single ingredient that is not allowed in organic foods, which therefore prevents these four products from being certified organic.

Additionally, there are a few ingredients that are not certified organic simply because they do not fall within certified organic guidelines that dictate how the plant is grown -- i.e., they are derived from minerals or the sea or are wild-crafted, such as carageenan obtained from seaweed that comes from the ocean.

The following is the list of non-certified ingredients used in Miessence products and products that contain the ingredient:

Aqua (Purified Water). A seven-step water filtration system is used that includes carbon filtration, heat sterilization, Ultraviolight Light (UV) sterilization, de-ionization and a two-step sub-micron filtration, followed by harmonic energization

Aroma (Amber Oil). Amber oil is a rare, precious and highly sought-after scent, treasured for its warm, musky and deeply sensual properties. Amber Essence Oil is handcrafted by extracting the oils from amber resins from Styrax tree resin blended from the wood and resin of various trees and other plants, which is then added to a synergy of pure essential oils and plant oils. This ingredient is found in Miessence Intensive Body Cream and Miessence B5 Hair Repair Treatment.

Bixa Orellana (Annatto) Seed Extract is produced from the reddish pulp which surrounds the seed of the achiote (Bixa orellana) tree of tropical regions of the Americas.

Daucus Carota (carrot) CO2 Extract. Carrot seed has regenerating and toning effects, which is excellent for mature and congested skin, couperose skin and eczema. This ingredient is found Miessence Ambrosia Essence, Miessence B5 Hair Repair Treatment, Miessence Rejuvenessence Serum, Miessence Soothing Moisturizer and Miessence Soothing Conditioner.

Chondrus Crispus (carageenan) Gum is a completely natural food grade material obtained from red seaweeds. In hand lotions and shampoos, carageenan not only thickens the product but also promotes healthy skin and hair. This ingredient is found in the Miessence Shape Styling Gel.

Coco glucoside is a non-ionic surfactant (foaming agent) synthesized from coconut and glucose. Coco glucoside has excellent dermatological compatibility, being very mild on the skin. Based on the Duhring Chamber Test it has the lowest irritation score of all common surfactants tested. It is free from ethylene oxide, which can cause nitrosamine contamination, and free from preservatives. This ingredient is found in Miessence Desert Flower Shampoo, Miessence Lemon Myrtle Shampoo and Miessence Sunflower Body Wash

Citric Acid is a pH adjuster from the fermentation of carbohydrates. This ingredient is found in Miessence Desert Flower Shampoo, Miessence Lemon Myrtle Shampoo and Miessence Sunflower Body Wash

D-Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5) is the provitamin of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). It improves the moisture-retention capacity of the skin and stimulates skin regeneration. Dry skin stays supple and elastic for longer. It has an anti-inflammatory and anti-itching effect. It makes hair easier to comb, reduces hair splitting, improves the condition of damaged hair, thickens the hair and provides sheen. This ingredient is found in Miessence Desert Flower Shampoo and Miessence Lemon Myrtle Shampoo

Lecithin (non-GMO) is a natural plant phospholipid from non-GMO (genetically modified organism) soybean oil. The uses of phospholipids in cosmetic products are many - they are superior skin restorative agents, moisturizers and have the remarkable ability to penetrate the epidermis (top layer of the skin) and carry substances to the cellular level.

Mica is a talc alternative mineral and is incredibly lightweight and helps to hides imperfections, while boosting the skin’s radiance. This ingredient is found in Miessence Shimmer Creams, Miessence Translucent Powder, Miessence Bronzing Dust and Miessence Blush Powders.

Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil. Moringa oleifera is an exceptionally nutritious vegetable tree; the leaves are a significant source of beta-carotene, Vitamin C, protein, iron, potassium, calcium and phosphorus. The oil resists rancidity at least as well as any other botanical oil. The fatty acid composition is considered to be similar to that for olive oil. This ingredient is found in Miessence Herbal Hair Conditioner.

Myroxylon Pereirae (Balsam Peru) Oil is an amber colored semi-solid mass exuded from the trunk after it has been stripped of bark. Rich, sweet vanilla-like aroma. Helps give a gloss and sheen to the hair. This ingredient is found in Miessence Shape Styling Gel and Miessence Herbal Hair Conditioner.

Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract is a unique anti-oxidant from the olive leaf that is deemed an important ingredient, even though it is not available in a certified organic form. It protects both your skin and the polyunsaturated oils in the Miessence products from free radical damage. It reduces skin damage caused by pollution and UV radiation, therefore protecting the skin from photo aging. It also improves skin hydration and elasticity.

Sclerotium Rolfsii Gum is a natural polysaccharide thickener. This ingredient is found in many Miessence products. 

Sericite is a fine grained mica mineral used as a talc alternative and is incredibly lightweight and helps to hides imperfections, while boosting the skin’s radiance. This ingredient is found in Miessence Mineral Foundation Powders.

Sorbitan Olivate / Cetearyl Olivate is a non ionic, not ethoxylated, PEG-free, self-emulsifying system derived from olive oil. Softens and hydrates the hair. This ingredient is found in Miessence Herbal Hair Conditioner.

Yucca Schidigera Extract. The Yucca Schidigera plant is native only to the south-western deserts of North America. Traditionally Native American Indians used it for washing, shampooing, and for a myriad of different medicinal applications. Biochemical research has shown that natural saponins, like those found in Yucca, repair the damage to cell membranes of the skin and scalp that result in a loss of nutrients. This ingredient is found in Miessence Cleansers (Normal, Balancing, Soothing and Rejuvenating formulas), Miessence Desert Flower Shampoo and Miessence Shaving Gel

Xantham Gum is formed when sugar is fermented by the bacteria Xanthomonas campestris. The bacteria ferment sugar to form a gummy substance. It is used as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier in many dairy products, desserts, and salad dressings. This ingredient is found in Miessence Deodorants, Miessence Toothpastes, Miessence Sunflower Body Wash, Miessence Shaving Gel, Miessence Shape Styling Gel, Miessence Desert Flower Shampoo and Miessence Lemon Myrtle Shampoo

Zinc Oxide is a soft, heavy white mineral powder that acts as a sun block and creates a soothing, protective barrier for the skin. This ingredient is found in Miessence Translucent Foundations, Miessence Concealers, Miessence Lip Creams, Miessence Mineral Foundation Powders and Miessence Reflect Outdoor Sunscreen Balm.
