Chloramines are formed during a reaction between chlorine and ammonia in water treatment. Chloramine reacts with organic matter less often than chlorine, thus little to no trihalomethanes (THM) and other disinfection byproducts are formed during chlormaine disinfection.
Chloramines remain actively within the plumbing much longer because it takes long for chloramines to be broken down. Like chlorine, chloramines are selectively reactive and may have damaging affects when they remain in the water for too long.
When chloramines are used, few disinfection byproducts, such as trihalomethanes, are formed. However, other disinfection byproducts can form. Examples are toxic halonitrils (cyano chloride), halonitromethanes (chloropicrin) and other nitrogen-rich compounds. Some of these compounds can endanger human health.

What Type Of Water Filter Removes Chloramine From Tap Water?
CuZn uses a KDF 85 water filter to filter out Chloramine. Also, KDF 85 Process Media can remove up to 99% of water-soluble lead, mercury, nickel, chromium, arsenic and other dissolved metals. All KDF Process Media forms are effective in controlling the buildup of bacteria, algae, fungi and scale, making them ideal for use in GAC beds, ion exchange resins, carbon block filters and inline carbon filters. KDF 85 filters remove up to 2500 ppm of Chloramine from the water before needing to be replaced (roughly 2,000 gallons).
But CuZn water filtration products don't stop there. The second cartridge includes the patented KDF 55 filter, which meets NSF standards 42 and 61, and coconut shell carbon.
